Pfannenberg Connect is the protocol used to communicate with the wireless sensor mesh of Pfannenberg IRES Shopfloor Analytics. The sensor nodes, referred to as “motes”, provide IO capabilities and are an excellent retrofit solution for machines and assembly places. Due to the easy installation and the robust self-organizing mesh network, based on SmartMesh IP, they are well suited for large plants in all fields of manufacturing.
The Connectware communicates with the mesh network controller (master). The mesh network controller is typically connected via USB to a Connectware Agent instance on the shop floor or integrated into the Connectware Edge Device provided by Pfannenberg.
The master controls the mesh which can be extended easily to hundreds of motes. Digital inputs, typically connected to PLC outputs representing machine states, are then transmitted to the Connectware and made accessible for various applications, including Pfannenberg’s IRES Shopfloor Analytics Frontend or clients that subscribe to machine events via MQTT, for instance.
