Sovereign data infrastructures for European industry: STACKIT and Cybus partner up

European cloud provider STACKIT from Schwarz Digits is collaborating with German software manufacturer Cybus // Combination of sovereign cloud infrastructure and industrial data integration // Joint solution for scalable, secure, and European smart factories.

Hamburg/Neckarsulm, January 20, 2025 – Europe’s industry is facing growing challenges: Global competitive pressure, fragile supply chains, and new regulatory requirements are increasing the need to make production more resilient, efficient, and transparent. At the same time, there is a growing demand for the secure management of sensitive manufacturing and company data – preferably on European infrastructures.

Secure data infrastructure for European industry

That’s why cloud provider STACKIT and industrial data infrastructure specialist Cybus have teamed up. They’re working together to help companies build secure, independent, and scalable smart factory solutions – from machines to business apps and back again.

The partnership enables industrial companies to achieve consistent, secure data flows between the shop floor and business systems. The basis for this is a data infrastructure that supports modern cloud architectures as well as highly secure on-premise environments.

“With Cybus, we are gaining an experienced partner for industrial connectivity and data integration,” explains Bernie Wagner, CEO of STACKIT and Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Schwarz Digits. “The combination of the sovereign STACKIT cloud infrastructure and the Cybus Connectware data foundation enables customers to use production data securely, scalably, and independently of non-European hyperscalers.”

Flexible deployment: cloud-first, edge, or hybrid

With Cybus Connectware, Cybus offers software specially developed for industrial environments that standardizes the collection and processing of machine and process data and makes it available for any application. Together with STACKIT, architecture models are created for a wide range of industrial scenarios:

  • Connectware on the STACKIT Cloud – for centralized, scalable data architectures
For cloud-first approaches, Cybus Connectware is operated directly in the STACKIT Cloud. Optionally, decentralized Connectware Agents can be deployed on local edge devices to securely connect production sites and consolidate production data across multiple locations.
  • Connectware at the edge – for the highest security requirements
Industries with particularly sensitive production areas — such as defense, pharmaceutical, or safety-critical supply industries — benefit from fully local operating models. Cybus’ on-premise solution enables highly secure, air-gapped scenarios and ensures that data sovereignty remains entirely with the customer at all times.

“The integration of Cybus Connectware into the STACKIT architecture makes it possible to quickly and securely connect even complex brownfield environments. This creates a key building block for sovereign industrial cloud solutions in Europe.”
