Smart into the IIoT era

Process optimization at GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik: a success story

» A fundamental concept like Industrial IoT requires an approach that is both solid and adaptable to
whatever the future may bring. We wanted to demonstrate the added value of machine data acquisition and explore new approaches to process optimization. In cooperation with Cybus, we have achieved this easily. «

Johannes Wöste, Head of Production, GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik

» That is why we decided for a compact pilot project and at the same time imposed hard criteria for the fit with our IT strategy and architecture. We were looking for a tool that was machine vendor-independent, easy to use and would seamlessly integrate into our existing infrastructure. In addition, it should support our IT strategy. «

Torsten Grotkopp, Team Lead IT-Business Partner, GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik

With a universal data infrastructure, GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik optimizes its production processes

Real-time transparency of production processes

The operation of laser cutting machines is fundamentally cost-intensive. For GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik, it is therefore important to create complete transparency of the production processes. This is the only way to optimally plan and prepare the processing of new orders, to avoid expensive idle times and to quickly detect failures. To optimize the production, GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik therefore uses Cybus to provide the real-time status data of the machines in a central dashboard. With Cybus’ future-proof data infrastructure, GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik not only realizes this first use case, but also creates the basis for the rapid realization of all further IIoT projects.

Absolute flexibility in the connection of a heterogeneous shop floor

In the pilot project, four laser cutting machines were connected, which use Mazak’s own and Siemens Sinumerik machine controls. Two CNC machines, both equipped with Heidenhain controls, were subsequently integrated into the pilot project. The real-time machine data is pre-processed into the customer’s own SQL Report Service and further processed into application-specific dashboards.
